Assistant Unit Manager

About the position

Job Summary:
To evaluate and accept risk as per the set guidelines and provide technical guidance to underwriters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assessing and processing risks as per the underwriting guidelines.
• Attend to customers’ and intermediaries’ questions
• Provide Accurate Insurance quotations
• Assist in quotations follow-ups
• Invite and dispatch renewal notices as per TAT
• Sign marine certificates and bonds endorsements as per Matrix and delegation
• Process Endorsements upon receipts of full documents
• Ensuring All marine issues are franked in a timely manner
• Review and ensure outstanding bonds are cancelled when due.
• Ensure hanging transactions are sorted as per business appetite
• Reconciliation of client’s accounts department.
• Following up on the non-renewed business to establish the status
• Respond to queries from underwriters and give guidance on how to tackle similar or related problems in future
• Allocating duties to the underwriters through mail distribution, and accounts allocation.
• Monitoring production to ensure the department meets the set targets/budgets
• Reviewing policies and adjusting the terms depending on the performance.
• Train and mentor new staff
• Assist the claims department by providing the required documents and details immediately
• Assist in credit control
• Others as may be assigned by the respective supervisor

Job Holders Specifications:

Desired Education/Qualifications:
• Degree preferably B comm. Insurance option or Economics
• AIIK or ACII

Minimum Experience
At least 5 years of underwriting experience in an insurance company
