{"id":12533,"date":"2026-11-03T14:43:43","date_gmt":"2026-11-03T11:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gainsuranceltd.com\/ke\/?post_type=jobs&#038;p=12533"},"modified":"2026-11-03T15:22:19","modified_gmt":"2026-11-03T12:22:19","slug":"senior-underwriter","status":"publish","type":"jobs","link":"https:\/\/www.gainsuranceltd.com\/ke\/jobs\/senior-underwriter\/","title":{"rendered":"Senior Underwriter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Reports To:<\/strong> Unit Underwriting Manager<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Job Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Senior Underwriter ensures the company maintains a balanced, profitable, and compliant general insurance portfolio while providing technical leadership and mentoring to the underwriting team.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Review, evaluate, and approve complex and high-value general insurance proposals (e.g., engineering, fire, liability, marine, motor, and property).<\/li>\n<li>Analyze risk exposures and determine appropriate coverage terms, premiums, and policy conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Make informed underwriting decisions within delegated authority limits and recommend referrals to management for exceptional cases.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure underwriting decisions align with company profitability targets and reinsurance arrangements<\/li>\n<li>Monitor the performance of the general insurance portfolio to maintain healthy loss ratios and business growth<\/li>\n<li>Supervise and mentor junior underwriters and underwriting assistants, ensuring technical competence and consistent application of underwriting standards<\/li>\n<li>Build and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, agents, and corporate clients.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure full compliance with underwriting policies, IRA regulations, and internal controls.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare and submit periodic underwriting and performance reports to management.<\/li>\n<li>Support audit processes and implement corrective actions for identified gaps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Qualifications and Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Education:<\/strong> Bachelor\u2019s degree in insurance, Business, Commerce, or a related field.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Professional Certification:<\/strong> Advanced <strong>Diploma in Insurance (AIIK)<\/strong> or <strong>ACII (UK)<\/strong> is required.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Experience:<\/strong> Minimum of <strong>5\u20137 years<\/strong> in underwriting general insurance, with at least <strong>3 years in a senior or supervisory capacity.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Skills and Competencies<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Strong product and market knowledge, reinsurance practices alongside a solid understanding of regulatory compliance standards.<\/li>\n<li>Advanced risk assessment, analytical, communication, strong leadership and team management skills<\/li>\n<li>High attention to detail, sound decision-making capabilities, and excellent relationship management and negotiation skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Application Procedure:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you meet the above requirements and wish to be part of our vibrant team in Underwriting Department, please send your application letter and updated CV to the email address <strong>careers@gakenya.com<\/strong> by <strong>09<sup>th<\/sup> November 2026<\/strong>.
