About the position

GA Insurance Uganda Limited (hereinafter β€œThe Company”) is a company incorporated in Uganda and duly licensed to conduct non-life insurance business by the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda. GA Uganda is a fully owned subsidiary of GA Insurance Limited, an insurance Group with Head Offices in Nairobi Kenya. The GA brand is now truly East African having set foot in Uganda in late 2019. The Tanzania operations were established just over six years ago. GA Uganda is the latest addition in the general insurance market space in Uganda with a vision to be the most trusted insurance company.

The Company hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following job opportunities as part of the implementation of its strategy for growth.

  1. Senior Underwriter

With a view to beefing up capacity in our underwriting department in response to the exponential business growth registered since our entry into the Market, we seek to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic, talented, qualified and experienced individual willing to join the team in the role of Senior Underwriter reporting into the Underwriting Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Issuance of Underwriting Documentation
  • Issuance of Tax Invoices, Debits, Credits and policy documents for business accepted as per the agreed terms with the insured and in line with set departmental service standards.
  1. Risk management:
  • Evaluation of risks as per risk appetite, the reinsurance treaty and underwriting manual
  • Review loss-making accounts and provide risk improvement measures
  • Ensure inspections for risks accepted are done as guided by the underwriting manual
  1. Processing of Quotations:
  • Process quotations within the agreed time frames and maintain a register
  • Closely monitor all quotations to brokers, agents and direct clients for closure
  1. Service Delivery and Customer Experience
  • Review and follow up outstanding premiums from brokers, agents and direct clients. This is in line with the company’s credit policy.
  • Ensure policy documents, quotations and all required documents are issued and delivered as per Service level agreements
  • Ensure all customers are attended to whenever they need service from the underwriting team
  • Ensure all queries from customers are attended to timeously withing the company service charter
  • Attend to all incoming mail and instructions, responding to them promptly
  1. Management of the Renewal Process
  • Ensure the retention of existing business as per/Renewal retention target
  • Ensure that the monthly renewal notices are processed, issued, dispatched and followed through for each confirmation as guided by the underwriting manual
  1. Accountable Documents
  • Ensure proper documentation and accountability for all accountable documents including certificates/stickers of motor insurance, signed and executed bond documents, collateral and counter indemnity documents, etc.
  • Review and ensure outstanding bonds are cancelled when due.
  • Ensure there is frequent motor certificate reconciliation and report on the same monthly.
  1. Compliance
  • Ensure Statutory and regulatory guidelines are adhered to when offering quotations, issuing policies and placing reinsurance
  • To Ensure prescribed underwriting guidelines are adhered to as per company policy and underwriting manual
  • Support the underwriting manager in preparing regulatory reports as per the set timeframes
  1. Reinsurance Processing
  • Ensure timely and correct reinsurance allocations for all policies handled or reviewed for all business as per treaty provisions and regulatory direction
  1. Credit Control
  • Ensure that the credit policy is adhered to at all times at issuance of covers
  • Assist in managing premium payment arrangements and ensure follow up and periodic reporting
  1. MIS Reports
  • Update all records and registers on a continuous basis
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on production for the;
  1. Monthly production reports; actual Vs Budget
  2. Stickers utilization reports
  3. Quotation reports
  4. Bonds reports

 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Law or any other related field
  • Professional Insurance Qualification at a Minimum of Diploma in Insurance level (DIP CII or DIP ITC) or its equivalent
  • Proven numerical, analytical, negotiation and communication skills
  • High Level of Personal and Professional Integrity
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with minimum supervision
  • At least Five (3) years of relevant working experience
